We are an expert organization established in 1971 that has grown into the largest family-owned company in its field in Finland. We offer auditing, financial and payroll administration, as well as taxation and business development services with a solution-oriented and personal approach. Our headquarters is located in Helsinki, and our regional offices in Lappeenranta, Oulu, and Tampere provide comprehensive services throughout the country. History of Tuokko
1971 ⇢
In 1971, APA Yrjö Tuokko began his auditing career by founding the company bearing his name, Tilintarkastustoimisto Yrjö Tuokko Ky. The business started as a one-man audit office in the attic of a detached house in Espoo. The first audit clients were nationwide organizations and companies in the transport sector. This was due to the fact that, prior to completing his APA qualification, Yrjö Tuokko had spent nearly ten years in senior financial management positions. The business soon expanded, and by the mid-1970s, it relocated from the attic to downtown Helsinki. At that time, the firm employed around ten people and served nearly 500 clients representing various types of companies.
1984 ⇢
In 1984, we acquired the waterfront villa “Villa Neovius” as our own office property, as both our operations and staff continued to grow steadily. By the time of the move, our personnel had doubled and the number of our clients was approaching one thousand. The 1980s also marked the beginning of internationalization in the auditing sector, as global audit networks began establishing a presence in Finland. Our first international partner was the Grant Thornton network, with whom we collaborated until the early 1990s. In addition, we established a specialized audit team focused on bankruptcy estates and other special audits. The formation of this team proved timely in anticipation of the economic recession of the 1990s.
1990 ⇢
The late 1980s and especially the early 1990s were marked by near-reckless developments in the economy. Corporate debt levels surged, primarily through foreign borrowing, while prices, interest rates, and asset values rose in constant turbulence. A devaluation of over 30% was among the factors that led to an unprecedented economic depression. This triggered the bankruptcies of thousands of companies, resulting in a redistribution of assets—so extensive that even institutions once considered pillars of the economy disappeared from the landscape. We have been involved in over 2 000 special audits, including nearly all of Finland’s billion-euro bankruptcies. Bankruptcy, in itself, is a natural phenomenon in the economy, and most bankruptcies are an inevitable consequence of changing circumstances.
1992 ⇢
Finnish companies’ operations in Estonia increased after Estonia gained independence in 1991. We recognized the need for an accounting firm that understands Finnish businesses, which led us to establish our subsidiary, Tuokko OÜ, in Tallinn in 1992. 1995 ⇢
In the mid-1990s, we began a partnership with the Deloitte network, adopting the name Tuokko Deloitte & Touche Oy. This collaboration continued until 2001, when we changed our business name to Tuokko Tilintarkastus Oy. Additionally, auditing of EU institutions and EU project funding, which began in the 1990s, became a part of our operations. We served as auditors for the European Investment Bank for five years—one of those years even as a chairman. In this capacity, we also participated in audits concerning the use of EU funds in several member states, including the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark.
2002 ⇢
Inspired by our experiences in Estonia, we expanded our operations in Finland in 2002 to include outsourced accounting services. Two accounting firms acquired into the group were brought together under the name Tuokko Laskenta Oy. In 2003, a generational shift took place within our company. Yrjö Tuokko transferred ownership of the company he founded to his children, Pia and Timo. The name Yrjö Tuokko Oy was changed to Tuokko Yhtiöt Oy in 2009. In the same year, we also selected PFK International as our new international partner organization. This collaboration continued until 2009.
2009 ⇢
In 2009, we began an international collaboration with the Praxity network. Praxity is the world’s largest alliance of independent audit firms operating in different countries. Its reach spans from Asia to the Americas. Praxity’s slogan, “Truly Local, Totally Global, Trusted Advisers,” reflects the fact that its representatives are among the best in their field. The International Accounting Bulletin has awarded Praxity the title of Association of the Year on multiple occasions.
2013 ⇢
In 2013, Tuokko Laskenta Oy merged with Tuokko Tilintarkastus Oy. At the same time, the business name was changed to Oy Tuokko Ltd. Additionally, new services were developed in response to client needs, such as corporate responsibility reporting and cybersecurity auditing.
2021 ⇢
The year 2021 marked a milestone anniversary for Oy Tuokko Ltd as the company celebrated an impressive 50 years of operations. We commemorated this remarkable achievement by publishing throughout the year the memoirs of our founder, APA Yrjö Tuokko, as well as those of our current Chairman of the Board, APA Timo Tuokko. 2024 ⇢
We are among the first audit firms to be registered as an Authorized Sustainability Firm in Finland. The opportunity to apply for Authorized Sustainability Firm became available at the beginning of 2024, when the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) was incorporated into Finnish legislation.

In 2025, we remain a Finnish company, with decision-making and responsibility firmly rooted in our home country.
